Building For Our Future

At the UW School of Computer, Data & Information Sciences, we are creating a hub for collaboration that will help make every idea better. As technology transforms each aspect of our lives, so too has the need for transformative ways of thinking, problem-solving, and creating. That is why it is important to create a space for cross-disciplinary learning and experiences.

Our goal is to co-locate our departments and create a place where high-tech learning and collaboration come together under one roof. In addition, we are focused on ensuring that students, faculty and industry experts can discover, solve problems, and lead in a world that is moving forward at the speed of innovation. We’re building the future of Wisconsin – and the future of every Badger – and with your help, there’s no limit to what we can accomplish together.

Building News

We have experienced unprecedented growth that shows no signs of slowing and that increase in enrollment requires more space for teaching, learning, connecting, and discovering. Technology touches everything, and this new building will be the hub of activity for everything computing, data, and information sciences – throughout our campus and beyond. The learning, discoveries, and ideas developed here extend beyond the borders of our campus and a new space will expand that reach by enabling creative partnership, empowering entrepreneurship, and fostering industry relationships.

A Hub for Collaboration

This facility will be dedicated to digital excellence in both research and education. With spaces for classroom instruction, research, study, and collaboration, it will facilitate connection between students, faculty, and industry partners.

A Centralized Location

The building will create a new center of activity for the campus, enabling important connections and establishing a tech corridor from Physics and Chemistry to the Discovery Building to the College of Engineering.

Where Learning Happens

Modern classrooms with the latest features for connectivity and collaboration will facilitate hands-on learning experiences. The building will also have enough space to double our faculty to meet current and anticipated demand.

Unlocking Potential

The American Family Data Science Institute, Center for High Throughput Computing and Department of Biostatistics and Medical Informatics will all reside in the new CDIS building, offering exciting collaboration, research and learning opportunities.

The webcam provides a bird’s eye view of the construction site and updates hourly. Launch the webcam in a new tab.

WHY A NEW BUILDING MATTERS

This $225 million project at the heart of campus, on the corner of Orchard and University Avenue, will be entirely privately funded. We expect to open our doors at the beginning of 2025.

Ideas are everything,
and they need your support.

In addition to a new building, we are seeking to raise $100 million for academic support. This will help fund student success through augmenting the student experience, industry partnerships, research opportunities, and cross-discipline initiatives between our departments and our colleagues in engineering, business and medicine. It will also help fund academic excellence by attracting top-notch talent as we double our faculty to meet both current and anticipated demand.

Contact your WFAA Development Officer to discuss how you can support our new building and other fundraising efforts.
